What is the difference between a cartridge labeled Recycled, Remanufactured or Compatible?

As the toner cartridge industry continues to mature, it has increased its capability to deliver higher and higher quality to the public. This is especially true for manufacturers of recycled cartridges.

Recycled products are commonly thought of as items were new from a factory, depleted of its original value, and instead of disposing of it to the landfills, they have been reclaimed and reworked.

Some 15 years ago the manufacturers of the reworked cartridges often drilled a hole and filled the empty core with more toner. These are known as the drill and fill factories and gave the recycled industry of toner cartridges a bad reputation because there were so many problems to the end users. There are very few of these vendors left.

The more resourceful manufacturers took an engineering approach to their product’s quality. By taking the cartridge completely apart and replacing and cleaning all the components, they raised the bar for the manufacturers of recycled printing cartridges. These factories labeled their cartridges Remanufactured and immediately created the market for higher quality and innovative new replacement parts. The public was pleased with the toner products and the reputation of the industry has flourished as seen by the numerous testimonials about quality and savings.

Premium Compatible Toner Cartridges is a fairly new identifier to alert the public that there has been yet another raising of the bar for quality. The suppliers of the replacement components have made increasing advancements in quality. Much training and attention to standards by the manufacturers as a whole of aftermarket cartridges industry has again gained significant strides in excellence, where the recycled cartridges now on the market are of equal or higher quality as the original factory produced cartridges. In fact the OEM factories such as Hewlett Packard, Lexmark and Canon recently took a hint from the recyclers and also found value in using reclaimed components. Read their boxes and you’ll see for yourself. You’ll wonder why you should pay more.

Are compatible toner cartridges inferior to the original (OEM) cartridge?

No, not at all. Some vendors may only drill and refill cartridges with toner. This practice can cause problems with streaking, ghosting and sometimes leaking. At CRS Printek, we completely disassemble, test, inspect and replace, as needed, every component of each cartridge that we manufacture with high quality parts and toner. We use ASTM methods to determine the best toner/drum combinations. Then we test each cartridge in our own printers and pack the printout results with your cartridge. Beware of buying the lowest priced cartridges. See our 12 POINT CHECKLIST of questions to ask before purchasing compatible or remanufactured toner cartridges. All toner cartridges are not re-created equal!

What does OEM mean?

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) refers to the manufacturer of the printer, copier or fax machine. Originally, OEM product meant new (not compatible, refilled, recycled or remanufactured). However, with the advent of recycling programs by large manufacturers, you may see comments on their packaging like, “This product may contain new and recovered parts.” In the last few years, most OEM cartridges are a mixture of new and recycled materials. However, you pay full retail price for these cartridges, when in fact they are also recycled cartridges.

How much money will I save by purchasing CRS Printek compatible toner cartridges?

The savings will change depending on which printer you own. You can save up to 58% off the price of OEM cartridges. Contact us for the specific savings on the toner cartridges you use!

Will using a compatible toner cartridge void my warranty?

It is illegal for your laser printer/copier manufacturer to require you to use or purchase a particular brand of cartridge, just as it is illegal for your car dealer to require only original parts to be used to fix your car.

Hewlett Packard clearly states in their warranty policy that “Hewlett Packard does not prohibit the use of refilled toner cartridges during the warranty period or under a maintenance contract…” (American Office Dealer, “Better the Second Time Around!” March 1990). Should a service person or OEM representative try to tell you your warranty will be voided, simply ask him/her that you would like them to state that in writing on their company letterhead and to be sure to sign and date the letter. You are protected under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act, Subparagraph C, Section 101. It is very unlikely that you will get the written statement you request.

How easy is it to order a toner cartridge from CRS Printek?

Very easy! Just call us at 972-881-9538 and a real, live person will answer the phone and promptly determine the proper cartridge for your printer, copier or fax. You’ll never hear “Press 1 for Sales” at CRS Printek. For online convenience you may email us your information.

How soon will I be able to get my compatible cartridge?

Call us today! We have compatible toners for over 1,943 different model printers, copiers and fax machines in-stock and ready for next-day delivery. Of course, if you need them sooner, we can provide same day delivery.

Do I get credit for returning an empty when purchasing a cartridge?

Yes, our price for compatible toner cartridges is with your exchange. For first time customers, who may not have an empty cartridge saved up, we forgive the exchange on cartridges we have readily in stock. If you have extra virgin OEM cartridges (not previously remanufactured), we give you credit for these toward your purchase.

Do you pick up my empties when you deliver my order?

Yes, our cartridge Take Back Program allows us to pick up your empty cartridges at the time of delivery of the current order . We “take back” these cartridges and then use them as part of our production process. This helps to prolong the life of our local landfill and keep our prices low.

Am I really helping the environment by purchasing CRS Printek compatible toner cartridges?

Yes, you are! More than 3 quarts of oil are required to produce each new laser cartridge. That’s why the EPA mandated the use of OEM compatible or remanufactured cartridges for all Federal agencies. This year alone, cartridge recycling will save over twenty million gallons of oil. Please consider our Texans Care Toner and Inkjet Recycling Program for returning all of your OEM empties for reuse.

If it is a printer problem, 90% of the time we can give you an estimate of cost and time to repair your printer over the phone.

Should I bring it in or get on-site service?

That’s up to you. You receive a $25 discount on labor when you bring your printer into our facility for repair. Either way, you will be up and running in 1 business day 98% of the time.

What type of service and parts warranty do you offer?

CRS Printek’s warranty is 90 days on parts and 90 days on labor. This warranty ensures that your printer will continue to perform properly.

Explain your evaluation fee?

CRS Printek offers an In-House evaluation of your printer problem for $30. This option allows you to get a firm quotation on cost to repair your printer before it is repaired. If you choose to get your printer repaired, this evaluation fee is placed toward the repair of your printer and you are charged our normal In-House labor.

Why would paying an evaluation fee be important to me?

If you are questioning whether to repair your printer or to purchase a new one, our evaluation fee allows you to predetermine the cost of your repair and then compare that with the price of a new printer enabling you to make a more cost effective decision.

Why wouldn’t I want to use recycled paper?

Recycled paper has shorter fibers resulting in more paper dust that can cause your pick up roller to become slick, causing paper jams. A service call is necessary to clean or replace these rollers costing you up to $90-$120.

When is it just more economical to get a new printer?

There are many variables for consideration. With our troubleshooting and estimates over the phone or our evaluation fee option, we can help you decide whether to get your printer repaired or just purchase a new printer based on the cost of your repair.

Am I really helping the environment by selling my toner cartridges to CRS Printek?

Yes, you are! An empty toner cartridge adds approximately 3-5 pounds of non biodegradable waste to our landfills. Over 75 million pounds of plastic and metal are saved from landfills each year as a result of printer cartridge remanufacturing.
